TBS Family Torah School Volunteer Opportunities

The TBS Family Torah School is a group effort. Built on the vision of our families, it is sustained by our collective sweat equity and creative collaboration. We need the talent and energy of every parent throughout the school year and summer.

Classroom and Office Help

Classroom Parent:

  • Coordinate and Monitor snack arrangements (preferably providing supply funded by all parents)
  • Advise and coordinate carpools
  • Express Teacher Appreciation Mid-Year and at End of Year
  • Help or recruit volunteers for special class projects
  • Help with phone tree in case of special circumstance
  • Lead planning to get all students to class Shabbat dinner at TBS

School Shopper:

  • pick up supplies as needed for school office, special projects
  • look for coupons/specials/give-aways for items on school wishlist

School Photographer:

  • photograph school sessions to build photo archive

Safety Support:

  • Supervise Drop-off | Recess | Pick-up
  • Assemble our Earthquake Emergency Provisions
  • Liaise with LBFD and local churches to plan Emergency Evacuation Procedures

Office administrative:

  • Coordinate parent volunteers–collating parent interest and availability information from registration forms
  • Inventory Art Supplies (update wish-list)
  • Send “we missed you” cards to absent students

Special School-Year Projects:

  • Help class in the kitchen with cooking activity
  • Help with major art activity–crochet-ing kippot, painting mural, decorating tiles for school wall
  • Be an in-class guest speaker on: Jewish identity, Israel, etc.
  • Guide planting efforts for Tu B’Shevat
  • Referee the Hannukah Maccabiah
  • Drive carpools to Community Holiday events at the Alpert JCC

Summer Support:

  • Coordinate clean-up and Major Renovation efforts at end of year (e.g. painting)
  • Decorate hallway and classrooms for new school year
  • Host Shalom Aleichem Shabbats
  • Provide constructive feedback on Shabbat services for student & family experience

Shabbat Mornings

  • Provide constructive feedback on Shabbat services for student & family experience
